My time in Cambodia ended in August and I headed back to Korea to get my belongings, report on Cambodia, and say my goodbyes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_GoYDvk3fG1c/R6AQ_35RtZI/AAAAAAAAAFk/SMKXr_kuLlc/s1600-h/Camb.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_GoYDvk3fG1c/R6AQ_35RtZI/AAAAAAAAAFk/SMKXr_kuLlc/s400/Camb.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161143862488577426" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;My time in Cambodia left an impact on my life as I learned more about serving and being served. I greatly appreciated working with the Korean missionaries in Cambodia. They taught me much about the life of a missionary and being devoted to their work as Christians. Through the Korean Taekwondo teacher, I was reminded that whatever gift God has given, you can use for His glory. I made many friendships from my time here, and I am forever grateful for the memories shared. I appreciate my boss letting me stay in his spare apartment and giving me extra time in Korea so I wouldn't feel rushed. [I wanted to post this picture of me and my boss because he we came to form such a special relationship over this past year. He was much more than a boss, like a father at times, and an encouraging fellow servant of the Lord. I was greeted by my friends, family, and FIANCEE! After spending time at my parent's home to readjust to life in the USA, I was able to get an apartment and move to Charlottesville in October which allowed me and Stephanie to be closer and begin learning the joys of being around each other once again. So over the next couple of months, Steph and I prepared for our wedding... and my beautiful fiancee finally became my beautiful bride!&lt;br /&gt;Stephanie and I were married on December 15th, 2007 and were overwhelmed with love and support from our friends and families.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_GoYDvk3fG1c/R6ASUH5RtcI/AAAAAAAAAF8/bPk000zvS64/s1600-h/December+07+624.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_GoYDvk3fG1c/R6ASUH5RtcI/AAAAAAAAAF8/bPk000zvS64/s400/December+07+624.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161145309892556226" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;Now that the festivities and holidays are over, we have settled into our home together here is Charlottesville. There is lots to learn about being married, but I am so thankful to have such a special young lady to be learning with. We both are so excited and love spending our days together.&lt;br /&gt;As we look to the future, we are excited to see the good things that God has in store for us- but for now we put our life and energies into the place He has us now. We don't know what doors will open for us as we both have a desire to travel, but we do hope to see friends again in the places we've been. For now, I'll give you the quick recap version:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;My boss, his two children and I left Vietnam safely (by bus) and crossed the border into Cambodia. We spent a day visiting the 'killing fields', and an old school turned &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"&gt;museum&lt;/span&gt; which held prisoners of Pol Pot's regime at one time. It was definitely an educational experience as I was clueless that these things were happening... as recent as the 70s.  It was sad and horrific to see what they had to endure.&lt;br /&gt;I started teaching at Bright Voice Service Center about the first of the month and have been teaching 4 classes a day. This is my main work and a large part of my experience here- and it is going so well. I can feel the Spirit moving in class and I love seeing the students ask more questions about God. I often use the Bible while I teach and am able to engage my older students more deeply on topics such as love and faith. I could go on with specific stories and talk more about my students ...but this is the condensed version.&lt;br /&gt;Another part of my journey here in Southeast Asia took me to Bangkok, Thailand. I spent a weekend there with another teacher from the Service Center. We had an enjoyable time seeing and riding elephants and spending time with a missionary as he showed us around.&lt;br /&gt;Since then, I've been back at the Center teaching and spending more time with my students. I'm so glad they enjoy practicing their &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1"&gt;English&lt;/span&gt; with me and some have even invited me to do activities with them outside of class in the city or countryside.  This has enabled me to see what life outside the capital is like.. and it is an unforgettable experience.&lt;br /&gt;The Service Center is currently taking a break from the normal routine to hold a Youth Summer Camp near the beaches of Cambodia for a few days. They have asked me to come along and be in charge of the games. I had to be moved out of my apartment and packed up for my trip to Southeast Asia by the next afternoon. I was able to do so and I wanted to post an update on our trip:&lt;br /&gt;We (Mr. Lee and his 2 children and myself) had a safe flight to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam and have had a good day and 1/2 stay. We are leaving early tomorrow morning to take a bus to Cambodia. There are so many thoughts and happenings I could pass along.. but now is not the time. I will say that I do appreciate the prayers on my behalf- THEY ARE NEEDED. It has been amazing to see God drawing people to himself in the limited time that I've been here. I'm not sure how this will compare with the people in Cambodia, but it seems that God has wasted no time in allowing me to see His hand here in Vietnam. I hope to share more- but until then- pray for the work. Not just mine and all that lies before me- but for the harvest and all it's laborers. It's amazing to see first hand how big the harvest extends... and that wherever we go (or stay), there are people around us that God is working in there lives and we can have a part of it. Maybe not according to our own agendas and how WE think we can affect them, but according to how the Spirit leads..even if it's just a word of encouragement- simply pointing them to the Lord. But before I go into them, I want to let you know that teaching is still going well. Quick story: In one of my classes at &lt;st1:place&gt;&lt;st1:placename&gt;Lila&lt;/st1:placename&gt;  &lt;st1:placename&gt;Elementary School&lt;/st1:placename&gt;&lt;/st1:place&gt;, we got to a chapter in our book where it talked about beliefs. It was a wonderful opportunity to open up a discussion about God and give Biblical examples of people who lived their lives based on what they believed. The students listened and even added to the discussion. As my time draws to an end with my students, I’m trying to make the most of it- remembering that a part of teaching is simply loving and enjoying each other.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am still actively a part of &lt;st1:place&gt;&lt;st1:placename&gt;Kwanglim&lt;/st1:placename&gt;  &lt;st1:placename&gt;Methodist&lt;/st1:placename&gt; &lt;st1:placetype&gt;Church&lt;/st1:placetype&gt;&lt;/st1:place&gt;’s English Ministry and a member of their praise team. He continues to teach me and I love taking in the wisdom He offers. I have been reading through the Old Testament and I have recently come to the book of Micah. In it, there is a verse that is a good reminder as I go through life and must be ready to face whatever situation I’m confronted with. “He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with you God (Micah 6:8). Just as God directs the step of those who trust in Him, I believe He also teaches those who live humbly before Him.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Now, I’d like to take just a moment to share with you my upcoming schedule as it stands right now. July will be my last month of teaching in &lt;st1:country-region&gt;&lt;st1:place&gt;Korea&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; and then I will be heading to &lt;st1:country-region&gt;&lt;st1:place&gt;Cambodia&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; to work for a church/outreach center teaching children English and evangelizing. I will leave &lt;st1:country-region&gt;&lt;st1:place&gt;Korea&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; on the 28&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; of July and return a month later. I am planning on doing a presentation for his mission group and then saying my goodbyes and heading back to &lt;st1:country-region&gt;&lt;st1:place&gt;America&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; the first week of September.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As I look to the future and all that is happening in my life right now, I am thankful and realize that I daily need to rely on God for strength, grace, and guidance as it’s His purpose that prevails. I desire to keep in step with the Spirit so I will be able to see how God is working and follow in His way. To be honest, my top priority has not been to update this blog while she's been here.  In fact, ever since Steph arrived, I have hardly touched my computer.  My life adjusted to focus on the one whom I am completely in love with- giving her my time and attention. We both knew the task that faced us- to cram all the Jarrod and Stephanie time we've missed over the past 4 months into 11 days, making each moment seem as if it were weeks spent by each other's side and in each others arms - We were up for the task :)&lt;br /&gt;But now, seeing as Stephanie is back in America, the time has finally come to sit down and type out our experience.  There's lots to be said about all the memories we've made, but for the purposes of this blog, I'll stick with the one you'll probably be most interested in.&lt;br /&gt;So, Friday was the big day.  Stephanie and I rode to Lila Elementary where she was immediately received as a movie star- with kids chanting her name, drawing her picture, or doing silly things to get her attention. They loved her and I was so glad to have her with me. Then after school, my time came...&lt;br /&gt;We took a motorcycle ride and ended up at Namsan- a mountain in Seoul, surrounded by the city on all sides. There was a walk-road on the mountain, and it led to a quiet place with a gazebo and bench.   Sitting on the bench, we opened up the Bible to Proverbs 31 and thus I began the declaration of my love.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;I then took her by the hand and led her into the gazebo.. got down on my knee and asked Stephanie to marry me. The best moment of my life was hearing her respond with a confident yes! I feel as though I have no greater gift than having her in my life. We feel the strong support from our family and friends as well as the people here in Korea who have shared in our joy with us. I could go on and talk about the specifics, but I need not here. We are confident in where the Lord has brought us. Timing has been key throughout our whole history together- and it has been amazing to have the Lord's confirmation that now is our time. We have been preparing our whole lives for this and the time has finally arrived.&lt;br /&gt;Steph and I declare with confidence that as we trust in the Lord with all our hearts, acknowledging Him and His ways, He has and continues to unite our spirit, show us His favor, and direct our steps. We are excited and ready to see all that the Lord has in store. I want to take just a moment to give you insight from this country's point of view. I have heard that the South Korean government has offered their condolences and hopes there is no animosity toward the South Korean people. As for my personal experiences, many of my friends know that I am from Virginia and I have have multiple Koreans approach me not only to see if my friends and family are okay, but also to apologize and say how it has made them very sad. One of my Korean friends made sure to call me (even early in the morning) to be sure I knew I had his sympathies. I  have appreciated  their genuine concern and how the impact is being felt here in  Korea.  I feel I can honestly say that our hearts are with America as it grieves this tragedy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: center;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(204, 51, 204);font-family:georgia;" &gt;"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me." That being the case, I must write about the week before Easter. April 2nd- April 6th was one of the biggest weeks for me being here in Korea, specifically related to sharing the message of Christ.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I mentioned in my previous entry that I was planning on sharing the Easter story with my classes and that it exactly what happened.  Drawing pictures on the white board for visual aid and doing a self-dramatization, I asked questions and taught my way through the Message of Christ's life, death, and resurrection. Hundreds of children got to listen to the lesson in more than 20 classes! They also got to learn the symbolism of the egg at Easter and why Good Friday is considered 'Good', even though that is the day we honor Jesus Christ's death.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It was a special time for me, and it was wonderful to see how the students took on to it. Their eyes would follow me around the classroom and during the different parts of the story they would go from laughing and smiling to being sad and imaging the pain on the cross to surprised that Christ is alive and the story is real! One class even scooted their chairs to the front of the room on their on initiative when I told them I was going to share a story with them. At times, I felt the weariness that can accompany evangelism (sharing the Gospel back to back to back) but I quickly found renewed strength and really enjoyed the task.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am not sure of all the prayers that go up on my behalf while I have been here in South Korea, but I want to say thank you to those who do take the time to remember me before God. I am teaching more classes at Lila than I was last semester and like I mentioned, they are the upper grades. Teaching older students is fun because they understand more of what I’m teaching; but it also comes with challenges. I try to remind myself that this means opportunities. For example, I am teaching all the boys in 6&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; grade (separated into classes of about 15 students). They don’t hesitate to share with me their age-related issues. I really feel like I have a wonderful chance to talk about these things and guide them through them. One principle I’ve learned in teaching is to be flexible and willing to adjust to the students and their specific needs and to what just ‘comes up’ during class. This includes discipline when necessary, but it also involves always looking for a chance to teach in those times and not just book knowledge. I believe making the most of those moments requires being open to the Spirit; thus I’m trying to live my life in the Spirit and not have it compartmentalized.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Overall, The changes have been good. I have become friends with all the new teachers and even get to spend time with them outside of school. At the academy I am teaching less hours but still enjoy the children. Sometimes it’s hard to discipline because at times when they are disruptive, it’s not because they are fighting, but because they are jumping on me or taking my slippers, or some other mischief. They are still learning about God, and I am grateful for that. That reminds me- Easter is approaching and I have asked the principal at Lila if I could talk about the holiday with the students. I could sense a hesitation from her, but still, she wasn’t opposed. I ask for prayer in this matter- that the Spirit would be present and I would use this opportunity boldly.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;I will mention one other opportunity that excites me and it's about Stephanie. She will be finished with her semester at the beginning of May and she has some time before she starts summer classes. We plan on her returning here for her second visit in the middle of May and we are both thrilled! You will have to stay tuned for more pictures and updates as our lives will be together once again.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I would love to hear from you if you are able.&lt;br /&gt;May the Lord bless you as you live and labor unto Him.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 102, 0);"&gt;I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Lila Elementary School has finally started its next semester and I'm getting familiar learning my new schedule. This semester I no longer am teaching grades 1 and 2 at Lila, I am actually teaching the upper grades (3-6) as well as Math and Reading/Writing for grades 4-6. Today was introductions, and I enjoyed showing my students many pictures from back home. Also, I have past my contract’s halfway point and I anticipate the next 6 months being quite different than the first. Looking back over the past 6 months, I see that I have done a lot of learning and a lot of settling into the routines of life here. I have made many friends and have established myself where I am at- making it feel like I belong here. But as I look ahead, I see there is going to be change. I know changes bring new opportunities and being accustom to life here and confident in the Lord makes me excited to face these new changes.&lt;br /&gt;My work at my boss’ academy is going well. I am still sharing the Bible with the students as they begin class by writing down the quotation of the day. I love sharing with them for a few minutes about God and His love and how we can live for Him. Just the other day, Ken told me that he was also sharing the Bible and after his class he was able to pray a prayer of salvation with an inquiring young boy. Praise the Lord that our efforts are not in vain!&lt;br /&gt;There have been a couple of holidays this past month: Valentine’s Day and (Chinese/Lunar) New Years Day. For Valentine’s Day in &lt;st1:country-region&gt;&lt;st1:place&gt;Korea&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;, it is the girls who give chocolate to the boys- so needless to say, I ate a lot of chocolate this year :) As for New Years- I had a three day weekend and was able to have guys over to my apartment for those days. We played lots of games and shared some good laughs.&lt;br /&gt;Again, I am looking forward to the new opportunities that lie ahead and excited to continue to live out my faith here with different people and in different ways. It is my prayer to have a teachable heart and an open mind to the Lord's wisdom and His ways. So, I figured today would be an appropriate day to update this blog on her visit to Korea. If you weren't able to tell by the pictures- We had an amazing time together! We knew many people were praying for us- and honestly, it was all I had hoped for...and More.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify; color: rgb(255, 255, 255);"&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 255, 255);"&gt;Her first week here I still had a few days of work- and we both were glad that she was able to visit the academy. My students loved her! And they better have because I'd been prepping them for a good while beforehand! [They still talk about her often!] Some of the other activites we were able to do during this week were: being taken out by Mr. Lee to a nice Korean dinner, riding on the motorcycle, ice skating, and even seeing one of Stephanie's good friends from college who is here teaching English.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 102, 102);"&gt;For the second week of her stay, I had vacation time from work and we were able to venture out and do even more. We saw many popular sites, but what we enjoyed most was simply being with the other person- because it felt so long since we'd been able to deepen this side of our relationship. We were able to be natural together, real, open, and funny with the other person and we loved it! It showed us that we are able to live out what we have been patiently waiting for.. and that patience is paying off :) We have more months apart ahead of us but we both are &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 102, 102);"&gt;commited to each other and letting the Lord keep us close. Praise the Lord that I did not have any trouble on either of my flights or going through immigration and customs!  Jarrod was waiting for me at the airport - and he was definitely a welcomed sight .  He has seen to it that my every need is met - and has already made my trip here very memorable.  In just a few days, I have found this culture to be very gracious and honest, met people who love to laugh and smile, smelled new smells, tasted new foods, walked where Jarrod routinely walks, learned a few Korean words, aged 2 years (in Korean standards I am considered to be 25), and rode on Jarrod's motorcycle.&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/x/blogger/5979/3552/1600/625382/01-2007%20%20Korea%20010.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/x/blogger/5979/3552/320/271939/01-2007%20%20Korea%20010.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt; I had the privilege of going to some of Jarrod's classes - and listening to one of his students pray for the classtime.  I couldn't help but smile as I listened to this little girl talk to God - and watch the children read a verse from the Bible and learn about the Lord.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is still hard to believe that I am half-way around the world from my home, my family, my friends... but I see more and more how we have family found in the body of Christ - no matter where we go in this world - because we share the same heart connection. Also, &lt;st1:city&gt;&lt;st1:place&gt;Seoul&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:city&gt; has seen its first snow accumulation of a few centimeters which was exciting. As for other activities, I have went to a Christmas party with church members, watched Christmas movies, listened to Christmas music including Handel’s &lt;i&gt;Messiah&lt;/i&gt; sang by the Kwanglim Korean Choir, played basketball with friends in below freezing temperatures, and celebrated Christmas with friends.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Let me elaborate on what Christmas has been like in &lt;st1:country-region&gt;&lt;st1:place&gt;Korea&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;. If you were to drive around the city of &lt;st1:city&gt;&lt;st1:place&gt;Seoul&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:city&gt;, you wouldn’t help but notice many Christmas lights decorating the already lit city. &lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/x/blogger/5979/3552/1600/253720/12-06%20029.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/x/blogger/5979/3552/320/703915/12-06%20029.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;In my classroom at Lila there were Christmas decorations up, and I enjoyed telling my students the Christmas story. I told them about Mary and Joseph, the shepherds and the magi, and how baby Jesus came into the world. I also tried to address some of the reasons why we do what we do for this season- like giving presents, singing carols, etc. It was interesting see how the students responded. Some wanted to know who Santa Claus was and if he was Mary’s husband or Jesus or a Magi because he gave gifts. But when it was all over, I asked them if it was Jesus’ or Santa’s birthday-&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/x/blogger/5979/3552/1600/671587/12-06%20041.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/x/blogger/5979/3552/320/589527/12-06%20041.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt; and they understood it was Jesus'. They also had mazes, word finds, and Christmas trees to color to add to the Christmas festivities. At the academy, we also have been going through the account of Jesus’ birth, but we have been doing it small parts (verses) at a time. We also have been decorating my room with Christmas chains, home-made snowflakes, and colored Christmas trees.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;As for my personal Christmas, two friends from church came and spent the night Christmas Eve. We had a wonderful time celebrating with games, movies, food, presents and laughter... and enjoying the fact that we didn't have to spend it alone.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;This Christmas has been a unique one for sure since I never have celebrated it away from my family; but I see that what matters is having people around to share in it. Being a part of the Body of Christ has given me this opportunity; I have found fellow brothers who share a common love for God and desire to live in Him. It is comforting to know that there are people not only in the &lt;st1:country-region&gt;&lt;st1:place&gt;USA&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; who love God and share their love to me- but I have also found it many miles away in the people here in &lt;st1:country-region&gt;&lt;st1:place&gt;Korea&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;. I am thankful to the Lord for how He has continued to provide for me and show me His unfailing love. I am learning so much and hope that I can live out the lessons with those around me.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;I continue to appreciate the prayers on my and my family's behalf. It is still a time of dealing with new things for us- but new changes bring new opportunities- so I look forward to the future and what lies ahead. It was a typical day and I was getting into the rhythm of teaching, moving right along in my lesson. The students were doing good staying with me and that's when we came to a counting activity. The students were to flip to the back of their books and take out the stickers labeled 11, 12, 13...20. Then they were to flip back to the page we were on and put them at the corresponding places (eleven crayons, 12 markers, and so on). Well, I was busy going around making sure the students were understanding the concept, when I came to a young boy who had decided he didn't want to keep flipping back and forth so he had taken the numbered stickers and put them all over his face. Then when he went to put them on the right page- he would pull them off one at a time to see if it was the number he was looking for, and if it wasn't he would put it back on his face and guess again. It definitely brought a smile to my face, so I walked over and tapped the sticker on his cheek and said 'eleven.' :)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My next story took place today at FFLS. I was teaching a group of preteens and we were reviewing a unit we had just finished on aquariums. I drew a picture of a big aquarium on the white board and asked them what goes inside. The first student raised his hand and said, "Jellyfish!" So I motioned him to come up to the board and draw it. We proceeded through this activity with students raising their hands and drawing different pictures of aquatic life. Then, one of my students raised his hand and said "Turtle"! When he came to the board to draw his picture, I was impressed with his ability to draw a turtle. Then after he fulfilled his requirement, he took it a step further and gave the turtle a mask and swords- turning it into a ninja turtle! I couldn't help but laugh and marvel at the thought that these students want to make school fun.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Many of them are giving up their free time after school, only to come back to a school and do more work! Some are even given money for snacks for supper because they're gone so long. They impress me. Sure because they're kids and not playing outside- I get pressured to take the class outside and go to a park, or to have a snack party, or to play longer games; but they also are willing to learn. And the more I teach, the more I realize that I'm not here to simply feed information to students- if that's the case, then the quieter they are the better. Don't get me wrong, quiet is good and appropriate much of the time... But they're kids. They don't just sit there like bumps on a log. Sometimes they talk or move or laugh or draw or try to kick my sandals off under the table. I want to take them for who they are and what they bring to class and channel that energy into active learning.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I also realize that I am teaching specific students- each with names and personalities that keep me on my toes and keep teaching enjoyable. How special it is to get to be the one who gets to spend this precious time with them and see how they live and enjoy their childhood- and not only that, but I also to have the privilege to train them and influence their future- It is my hope that I am able to push them appropriately, encourage them sufficiently, disciple them effectively, and bring out the best in them efficiently.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: center;"&gt;-To God be the Glory-&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/x/blogger/5979/3552/1600/699872/9-06%20170.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; I talked about how Christians &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0);"&gt;were looking for religious freedom, how many traveled to America on pilgrimage, the role the Indians played and the Thanksgiving feast that was celebrated. It was good for me to be reminded of where this holiday comes from and how it still means so much for many people today. We also did Thanksgiving 'Word Finds' and mazes, and some students even got to color turkeys.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/x/blogger/5979/3552/1600/277195/11-06%20042.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/x/blogger/5979/3552/320/524067/11-06%20042.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0);"&gt;As for my own Thanksgiving Celebration, Ken invited me to a friend's house who hosted a Thanksgiving dinner. It was great! There was plenty of food and I even got to have turkey! (And oh how I've missed it!) I was glad to have gone and not only for the food; there still were a few people there and I was glad to make their acquaintance.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0);"&gt;But my Thanksgiving festivities didn't stop there. This past Saturday I was able to attend a Thanksgiving celebration hosted by Ken's church. I usually start the 3rd grade classes with a quotation and today's was from Psalm 118 verse 24. "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!" As I stood there telling them how special they are to be alive- that God made them and gave them eyes to see and air to breathe- I then noticed the beauty of life outside. The sun was shining brightly as a cold breeze passed through the trees, grabbing leaves and blowing them all the way up past the 4th floor window where I observed speechlessly for a split second, overwhelmed by the moment. I then continued, "This very day God wants you to be alive! We can move and run, use our brains and muscles because we have life!" Then some of the students reminded me of our verse last week that God had also given us hearts and souls that we could use to love Him.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What a needed reminder when life seems to become monotonous or ordinary. We have an extraordinary God who has made life and given it to us to use and rejoice in.  When was the last time you stopped and realized that you are at a unique point in the history of life on this planet? Why is THIS time unique you may ask? Because you are alive right now! Alive and able to rejoice or not rejoice; Make a difference in the lives of those around you or just be another person who has come walked this earth and died. The Bible tells us in Psalm 115:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: center;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The highest heavens belong to the LORD,&lt;br /&gt;but the earth he has given to man.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is not the dead who praise the LORD,&lt;br /&gt;those who go down to silence;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: center;"&gt;it is we who extol the LORD,&lt;br /&gt;both now and forevermore.&lt;br /&gt;Praise the LORD.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;This very day was created by God, and all those who are alive now make choices, overtly or subtly, about how they live. Ask youself, how am I using the life that has been given to me? Am I rejoicing or just letting another day pass, hoping my life would hurry up and get somewhere- thus missing the opportunities in the 'moments' of life. A day will come when we no longer have the choice to move and laugh and run, to love or hate, to trust or despair, or to rejoice or not rejoice. Our time will be completed and our life will be called to account. How have we lived each day? Life is truely a precious gift God has given- and I hope that you and I make the most of it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am reminded of George Bailey in the movie, It's a Wonderful Life. George was a man who had let life get him down, and God allowed him to see what life would be like without him. By seeing this, George finally realized that his life did matter, that he was touching the lives of other people, and that he'd been given another chance 'to live again'. And what did he do? He Rejoiced! He whooped and he hollered and he let the whole world know that he is now living in light of life-for the moments and the people around him. He ran home to kiss his wife and hold his children, where he also found his friends coming to show him he was no failure.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I hope that by living in the reality of the importance of our life we will stay motivated to get out of bed in the mornings, to stop and smell the flowers on the way to work, to slow down and let someone in our lane in traffic, to say hi to a complete stranger, to love someone when it hurts, to cry when needed,  to say 'no' when its hard, to forgive and not hold grudges, to embrace and be embraced, to give something to someone who has less, to say 'yes' to the opportunites that come to our life specifically, to play in the leaves with children, to step out in faith, to seek our Creator, to pray to our Maker, to kiss our wife and hold our children, to simply take a deep breath, let life fill our lungs, and say 'Thank-You'.  In short: to Live.. to Laugh.. to Love.. to Rejoice.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;May you remember all the reasons you have for rejoicing and may you spread that joy to others. We are posing for a picture right before being bombarded with children as we passed out candy.  So, you may be wondering what Halloween is like in Korea.. Well I will share with you my experiences with it. Halloween has made it's way into the Korean culture, but as far as I know, it's stays mainly in schools, especially those with English programs. And because I work at such a school, Halloween was an eventful day. It all started when I went to Lila on tuesday to teach. The room had been decorated for weeks with pumkin-spider streamers, stickers, skeletons, and other knickknacks. When I arrived I took a halloween hat from among the decorations and taught my students along with the korean English teacher who was wearing her own funny hat.  I began class by talking about different activities people do on halloween beyond trick or treating.. like hay rides and pumpkin carving. Then I used a website my brother had given me so we could actually carve a pumpkin online and play scary music- we had fun with it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/1600/children.0.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/320/children.0.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;After my classes, I ate a quick lunch then had to rush back to the 4th floor so  I could help pass out candy to  the students.  I got to see all kinds of  costumes; but even if kids didn't dress up, we would still give them candy as long as they would speak English and say trick-or-treat. In this  next picture you can actually see the kids attacking me for the goods. My only defence was to stand up and hold the bag of candy over my head. I wonder what would happen if treat-or-treaters did this in America... Kids love candy- that's for sure!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/1600/10-06%20221.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/320/10-06%20221.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;When the lunch period was over, kids made their way back to their respective classrooms and I began to gather my things so I could head back to my apartment for a quick break before teaching at FFLS. But before I left, I noticed the 5th graders were using 'English Zone' (where I teach) to carve real pumpkins. When I came back the next day, I could see (and smell) all the different scary pumpkins they had made.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;It's fun to be reminded of familiar activites from back home, and good to be in a place that doesn't do things exactly how I'm used to them being done. It gives me a bigger picture of life beyond the USA and life beyond mine. As I have settled more into my teaching, I am learning to connect more personally with the students. This is good because it creates a better atmosphere for learning as they feel more relaxed to participate and for building trust in what I have to share with them. But it still comes with challenges- sometimes I have to work harder just to keep their attention. I am also trying to keep the perspective of enjoying each moment in teaching, and not letting my focus be on getting through the class and to the end of the day. I still am learning what it means to be an effective teacher, but I’m thankful that God blesses me with creativity (and flexibility) as well as having co-workers who want to help me succeed.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/1600/DSC02686.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/200/DSC02686.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;As for church, this past Sunday I was able to go to Kwanglim Prayer Mountain with the English service congregation (See Pictures). During this trip, I got to know more of the congregation and really felt connected; praise the Lord! The congregation in the English service is smaller- &lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/1600/DSC02684.1.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/200/DSC02684.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;my guess would be around 40 people. I'm still desiding if this church is where I want to regularly attend. Some factors weighing in this are how could I contribute to the needs of this specific church, how is this church reaching out and what is its desire for ministry.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;As for my family, we are still going through difficult times and learning to persevere. It is comforting to know God is present with us as He reveals more of the path my family is to walk. I trust He is fulfilling His purpose in this, while making sure to take care of us along the way. I know there are green pastures and quiet waters ahead as our Shepherd leads the way through the valleys- with His gentle voice calling us to place our fears aside and let him restore our souls. And just as in America, many people travel cross country to visit their grandparent's homes and the towns where they grew up.  (This is one of the few times the city of Seoul actually doesn't feel so crowded and busy. A pleasant time for sure!) Since I was able to have some free time, I went to visit an aquarium with some friends. But instead of going into all about the aquatic animals we saw- I want to turn the focus to a picture I took while I was there.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/1600/10-06%20075.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/400/10-06%20075.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;If you'll notice you can see hundreds and hundreds of small fish swimming in a large round-shaped fish tank where every fish looks just like the others. They are all swimming and they all are trying to do something to occupy their time. But if you take a closer look, you may be able to notice that they all are NOT identical, nor are they are doing the same things. Some are swimming one way, and many another direction. Some like to swim near the top, while others prefer the bottom. Some would rather hide out near the log where passer-byers cannot see them as easily-while others don't mind being out in the open for the whole world to see (and take pictures of).  As I think about these things, I see how easy it is to make the connection to our life. Yes it's true that we all live on this large round-shaped world with many other people. We all are living just like everyone else, trying to do something of value with our time. But when it comes down to it, each and every person is made differently. We not only look different, but we all have different preferences, where we like to be, and how we spend our time. Some like to 'swim' with the current, while others battle against it. Some are young, some are old. Some are happy and some are not. Some are getting plenty of food and some are not getting enough. But no matter how you look at it, each one is different. As I look at this photo, I can't help but see how the fish all look the same yet each fish is separate- having their own mind, their own agenda, their own life to live.  And I think that must be how God looks at us. Maybe not as he looks at fish, but as he sees each one of us so different, so special. To take care of us as a whole, yet allowing us to know Him individually; seeing the potential in group as a whole but also in each person. Making each one of us with differences- putting us in different places with different circumstances; assigning to each of us different tasks, and giving us different things to handle.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To be honest, these past couple of weeks have been a difficult time for my family. We are facing old and new challenges in our life right now and we're trying to support each other through them. I feel as though it is a crucial time for my family because the outcome will have a lasting impact on relationships within. And during this time I'm trying to guard my emotions and thoughts. My thoughts so quickly run to trying to search for answers to the 'Why?' questions. I'm reminded of the story of Job. A man who stood out in life to those around him because of his distinguished life-doing many good things. And then all of the sudden, disaster falls on him and he desperately wants to know why! After the Lord speaks with him, he realizes the bigger picture. "I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted...surely I spoke of things too wonderful for me to know." That's it- Job admits that ultimately God is in control and can do what he desires and we have to accept it and trust that God isn't giving us more than we can carry. But even more, to realize that God isn't allowing hard things to happen for no reason. If we believe in Him, we can trust there is a purpose in EVERYTHING that hits us because it has been 'God-filtered'. I can only image all the things that He has protected us from, giving me even more to be thankful for.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surely we have a God who eagerly provides for those who trust Him, and desires to give them good things. Can a bad thing be turned into a blessing? Most definitely! In Job's case, the latter part of his life was blessed more than the first. And in the book of James we are told that trials which test our faith develop perseverance making us complete, 'not lacking anything.' They make us well-rounded Christians, realizing that God isn't only present in the good times, but He is actively working even in the bad.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: center;"&gt;What a blessing to have a God that has made us differently, cares about us individually and is with us in all circumstances!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0);"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0);"&gt;"I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0);" id="en-NIV-29439" class="sup"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0);"&gt;I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0);" id="en-NIV-29440" class="sup"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0);"&gt;I can do everything through him who gives me strength." I've been blessed to have a one bedroom, one bathroom apartment provided for me through my boss. It has been fun to do things to make it more personalized. When I got here on August 16th, I had a table with a TV and VCR, a queen size mattress on the floor, a refrigerator, airconditioner, pots and pans, silverwear, dishes, and a big round table. Since then, my boss and his wife have bought/got me: a new single mattress (which sleeps great and saves room), a fan, a nightstand, a floor cabinet, a cutting knife, Tupperware, a pitcher, a new pillow, a mattress cover, and more. I been able to add some of my own additions like a lamp to set the mood and a framed collage of pictures above my computer. I've also taken down the TV and VCR, put more stuff in storage, and rearranged the furniture. The smaller picture to the right is a picture of what you see at the end of my bed when the bathroom door is closed. I have a hanging rack, next to the floor cabinet and fridge.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;I hope these pictures help protray more accurately my life here in Korea. Unfortunately, I haven't seen a football here yet, but I have been able to play more basketball. That has been enjoyable because not only does it give me exercise, I've also been able to make some new friends. As a matter of fact, just yesterday I met a Frenchman who spoke English, and we ended up having a long discussion about God after one of our games. As we were talking, I thought to myself how much I wanted to share Christ with him but at the same time it was hard to know how best to do that. He told me he didn't know if God existed or not and he was content with not knowing. He told me that life is about happiness and learning from mistakes. I tried asking him questions to see where I might be able to bring in the Good News (like seeing God in creation or what he thought about sin), but he would resort to saying that he didn't know or it didn't matter. I didn't know exactly how God was working in our conversation, but I was thankful that the man did ask some about what I believed. It saddens my heart that some people are content to not seek God. They think it's okay to wait to find out about Him. But what they are missing out on is a relationship with the one who made them, who saved them, and who can give them purpose to live. As much as I want this man to believe, I see that a relationship with God isn't something people should be reasoned into (or they might be reasoned out of it). Coming to God is a matter of a changed heart which leads to a changed life in humility before our awesome Creator- and this supernatural change must come from the Lord. So what am I going to do in the mean time? Live my life with the purpose I've received- striving to reflect Christ's love to others and share that in words when given the opportunity... We left on a good note, and I hope to see him on the courts again soon :)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/1600/10-06%20001.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/400/10-06%20001.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;As for other parts of my life, I am still searching for a church to regularly attend. I have been visiting many different English services since I've been here, but I really want to connect with one congregation- worshipping with them, getting to know them, and seeing ways to serve with them. Today I attended Kwanglim Methodist Church, which I've been told is the largest Methodist church in the world! (About a 5 minute walk from my apartment.) When I got there, I was hoping to find someone who could help me find out about the English service. I found one man, but he could only tell me '3rd floor'. When I when up there, I found the place where they give out headsets so you could listen to the Korean service being translated into English (high tech, but appreciated). After getting a headset, I walked into the Korean Service and a greeter, noticing I was alone, pointed me down toward the front of the balcony. I sat down in the empty seat next to a white person who introduced himself and helped me with my headset.. And as God would have it, he actually was the minister for the English service! Who better to answer my questions about the English service then the pastor- what a privilege.  After the service,  he took me out for a hamburger and we got to know each other better. We had to cut our conversation a little short because we had to go back to the church for the English service at 1:30pm. I felt very welcomed there and hope to attend again.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Many other things are happening, and I hope to write more soon. It's always good to be able to reflect on my life here and things I'm learning- but it's even better to be living it!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: center;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0);"&gt;"..He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0);" id="en-NIV-27538" class="sup"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0);"&gt;God did this so that men would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though he is not far from each one of us. But now I want to use it to give you a bigger picture of my life beyond Korea. In order for you to understand more about me, let me officially introduce Stephanie Cole. Let me back up a bit. Back in my high school days, Stephanie and I became good friends by our senior year (2001).  After graduation, we both went to two different colleges but still remained friends. It has been neat to see how much both of us have grown since high school- but not farther apart. In fact, over the past 5 years God has been placing many similar desires within each of our hearts for traveling and sharing God's love wherever He may lead. God also has given us a common understanding of who He is and how He works. So.. this past summer while I was in Uganda, I made the decision that when I came back to Virginia I would spend more time with Stephanie to see if there could be a relationship (beyond a friendship) in our future together. And that is exactly what we did! After a summer full of late weekends, lots of driving, going to weddings together, family activities, long conversations, and a family vacation... On August 5th, 2006 I asked Stephanie to be my...girlfriend! (Dating with the intent of Marriage to be proper :)&lt;br /&gt;So you might be thinking, "You got into a relationship right before you went to Korea, Jarrod?!" Yes! I feel confident in the decision we made. Both of us feel like we are able to commit to this relationship (even if it's temporarily long distant), and are EXCITED to see what the Lord is doing as He grows us together giving us peace while we are apart. We have been able to keep in touch almost daily which has helped break down the distance, and she even plans to visit here in January.&lt;br /&gt;It is hard to be away from someone you long to be with so much, but I remind myself that our decision has been given to God, so I trust Him for His purpose and the strength for it. One month ago, I was boarding a plane in Weyers Cave with mom, dad, and Alisia watching through the airport's glass windows. Time here feels like it is moving very quickly. I am done with introductions at Lila Elementary and have moved into actual lessons. It was fun to talk about my family over and over again, and see that the students were interested in them and where I was from and what it's like. I am blessed to have a Korean teacher in the classes with me at Lila.  She is able to speak English to me and Korean to the students when necessary. The students themselves are fun. Most of my classes are serious about learning. Sometimes it can be hard to remain 'professional' with them because they love to talk and laugh and I want to too! I'm learning how to balance sternness with playfulness while trying to maintain empathy for the students. Like I mentioned before, after classes at Lila, I eat lunch with the other teachers. During lunch the students go out to the play area and do all sorts of things.(The elementary school has two tall buildings in the shape of an 'L' with the playground in the middle- see picture.) &lt;/div&gt;&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/1600/8-06%20076.1.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/320/8-06%20076.1.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt; One day this week, Ken and I went to play basketball with a few of the older students. We had a lot of fun trying to 'ham' up the game. I am thankful to be teaching at Lila, and I love how the students appreciate their teachers. When I'm walking around students come up and say 'Hi, Mr. Jarrod!' and they wave or want to hold my hand or just see what I'll do. I have to remind myself that each one is full of such potential and I don't want to be too busy to encourage them. So it has been fun to stop and take a moment to say hey, ask them their name, how they are doing, or just give them a pat on the back. I love how children are willing to express how they feel and live life in a carefree way. &lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/1600/9-06%20044.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/320/9-06%20044.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;(I this this might have something to do with why Jesus said we must change and become like children). Teaching English can have ups and downs because sometimes I feel like the students are really understanding the material, then other days I feel like we are progressing much slower. But I realize there will be ups and downs because learning is a process. Being around the kids outside of class, I am reminded that they are kids who have their own agendas about life! Sure they want to learn, but they also want to run and jump, play and laugh, compete and show off, and be with their buddies. Kids are so precious, and I am learning that teachers have a special privilege because kids are so eager to grow and be molded.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Before I close out this one month update on teaching, I want to share a special story that happened to me this week. At FFLS, I was beginning on of my classes going over the daily Bible verse. On this particular day, the students had to write down Matthew 16:24 and then they had to read it. "If anyone whould come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." I then began to explain how if people want to have a relationship with Christ they have to deny themselves and bear their cross like Christ- act how He would act. (I shared the example of the W.W.J.D. braclets). After explaining the passage I tell the kids that I am open to answer any questions, but normally they keep quiet- expect this day. A young teenage girl pipped up and asked, "Does going to church make you have a relationship with Jesus?" After explaining how that wasn't always the case, we then talked about how God speaks to us and how he wants us to have a relationship with Him. Then the question came: "How do I have a relationship with Jesus?" I couldn't help but smile at the fact that God had opened this girl's heart to Himself and placed me in the position to point her to Him. "Believe that Jesus came and died for your sins." She said she believed, and I could sense the longing in her to know and be known by God. What a lesson that children simply want to know the truth and are willing to freely believe. I have this same longing within me toward God, but as I get older I see that more questions  try to pull me away from Him. How beautiful it is to come to the Lord as a child- simply accepting the fact that God made me, He loves me, and he wants me to love Him too.&lt;br /&gt;"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." Hebrews 11:1&lt;br /&gt;I thank the Lord that He has led me here to Korea, to see more of His creation and His people. On our hour voyage, we had good conversation of getting to know each other more. He even made a couple of good jokes and we enjoyed laughing with each other. After getting my foreigner's card, I taught for an hour at Lila (see picture of classroom), &lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/1600/8-06%20074.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/200/8-06%20074.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;then Mr. Lee drove me back to FFLS where he showed me his motorized scooter and let me try it out. On saturday, we actually drove it to Lila to see if I could make it on the streets of Seoul on a scooter. I followed closely behind Mr. Lee's car, and we did make it safely, but we decided it would be best that I don't travel far on the scooter. Then we headed to the marketplace to meet his wife. Here, they got me lunch and I got to see what a Korean market is like. I also got to meet a friend of Mr. Lee's wife and she gave me a hoodie as a welcome gift. On the way home Mr. Lee decided to stop and look at Motorcycles, as he considered buying one for me to use to drive to Lila (my co-worker, Ken, has one). Realizing I still had things I had to do in order to be able to get my Korean license, he took me back home. The next day Ken and I took the subway to Mr. Lee's church-of about 80,000. &lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/1600/bulletin.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/320/bulletin.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;(The picture is of the church from the bulletin). Being able to worship with Mr. Lee was a good experience. Even though the service was in the Korean Language, I was still able to sing familiar hymn melodies and was moved by the chior singing 'Onward, Christian Soldiers' in Korean. What a reminder that people all over the world are worshipping God in their own language, and God is over all. Praise is Praise no matter where it comes from. I also got a glimpse at what heaven must be like- seeing hundreds of choir members singing out powerfully to God; how much more so in Heaven.. What an experience!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;After church, Ken and I went over to Mr. Lee's apartment were he lives with his wife, daughter, son, and parents. We spent the afternoon talking, then had a Korean style dinner: A boiling pot in the center of the table with many different things to enjoy inside. We each had a bowl and chopsticks, and would use our chopsticks to get food out of the big bowl. Mr. Lee's wife kept adding items like beef, tofu, mushrooms, noodles, seaweed, and other things I'm sure I've never had before. What a fun experience!&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/1600/9-06%20021.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/320/9-06%20021.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am learning to see Mr. Lee as not only my boss; I see that he also is a man who strives after the Lord (which I am so thankful for) and I also see that he is someone I can have a freindship with. He and his family have been so kind to me from the moment I got here, and God has taught and blessed me greatly through them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: center;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;GENEROSITY&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;I know I have spoken on this topic before, but it has been a lesson which God has been reminding me of, a lesson with so many applications for life. It seems that ever since I've got to Korea, I've not stopped recieving generosity. If it is a cultural thing-then how beautiful it enhances the culture. But I don't think it's only that. I've been told that one out of four Koreans are Christians; and I know a major part of the generosity I've recieved has been from Christians. What a reflection of God's generous love to us, when we are able to freely help someone else. The Bible says, "You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people [which I can vouch for] but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else." I love the last part of these verses because it shows what genuine belief in the gospel of Christ looks like: it is accompanied by obedience; and I believe generosity is a part of this. Yes, when Christians are generous other Christians benefit- but our generosity should reach to others- believers and nonbelievers alike.&lt;br /&gt;From these verses I see that we have been given much, therefore we ought to freely give. I believe God brings people into our lives with needs and when we reach out in love and generosity to them, we are promoting the Gospel. God can use us as a way to meet the needs of those He cares for. Love promotes love. When we love, others are compelled to love. And I think most of us understand this idea, because it lies at the heart of friendship... how much more it should lie at the heart (and actions) of a Christian.&lt;br /&gt;These verses also remind us that we've been made rich in Christ. Maybe I should say it again to emphasize its importance: YOU HAVE BEEN MADE RICH IN CHRIST. No more striving endlessly to build up our riches to help ourselves. Our riches are here! Our barns are full! Our inheritance has come in! Now comes the question that confronts every Christian (financially poor to the financially wealthy alike): What are you doing with your riches? Do they remain in locked away in the barns of our own hearts-keeping us feeling spiritually wealthy when others are spiritually poor? (Blessed are the poor in Spirit...) Or are they pouring forth from us, like living water, to refresh the hearts of those around us? What a privilege to use our riches to help others so they may be led to give-reaching even more people, meeting more needs, sharing more love-with the Kingdom of God going forth powerfully. Most days I stay for lunch where I eat with other teachers. From what I hear, there are about 28 Korean teachers and 2 Foreign teachers (Yup, Ken and myself).  The other teachers are nice and some try to speak English with us. After lunch, I usually take the subway back to my apartment; then it's to FFLS to teach 4 or 5 more classes. The difficult part of the routine is that much of my weekday is taken up by teaching; I normally leave around 9-10 and don't get home until 7-8 (with the exception of a few hours for break). But honestly, I enjoy the teaching! The students are very good learners, most of whom have a prior knowledge of English. And because of my teaching schedule, I see that being a teacher is the major part of my ministry here. At FFLS, I have been able to start my classes with prayer and then have the students write down a Bible verse of the day. It's a good way to share about God with them because I get to explain the meaning of the verse. I am still growing in what it means to be a good teacher and still learning what it means to be a Christian while living in another country... but the challenge is rewarding. No matter where we go, we are called to 'fight the good fight of faith.' God always has lessons to teach, if we are just willing to take time to learn. I want to close with a familiar hymn. On Sunday, I was able to go to an international church service (in English) and then had my first Korean meal afterwards. It was a good experience- I am thankful, though, that I had learned how to use chopsticks in Japan!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This week, I have been learning how to fit into my job. I actually teach at two different schools, but the bulk of my teaching hours are at my boss' school, First Foreign Language School. This school is called a 'hogwon' because it is a specialized institution and not a public school with many&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/1600/8-06%20032.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5979/3552/320/8-06%20032.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt; subjects.  In Korea, there are many hogwons that students can attend where they can get extra help with subjects, such as English. FFLS is about a 2 minute walk from my apartment. The basic  routine for the students is to have a lesson with their Korean teacher then they come to my class to review the lesson. My boss, Mr. Lee, told me that I have some flexibility as I go over the lesson with the students. Writing, group activities, and games are all ways he wants his students to learn.  As you can see from the picture of my classroom, my class sizes are small. I would say my average class is 4 students. I am glad for this because it allows me to connect with the students more personally- being able to learn their names and call on each of them during speaking exercises. The age of my students range from about 6-16.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As for life outside of my work, I think my body is almost done making the transition to the new time zone. Right now, I am 13 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. The warm days here sometimes become rather hot, but from what I hear- as fall quickly approaches, the weather only gets more beautiful. I heard there was a local park nearby, so I got on my basketball shoes and headed there hoping to make friends. As it turned out, I met another American teacher who loves basketball and lives just a couple buildings down from me. He filled me in on the area of Seoul that we live in, telling me that this is a central part of the city where more of the upper class live. After basketball, he showed me more of the neighborhood, had dinner, and played chess.&lt;br /&gt;Over all, I'm learning a lot about Koreans, the city,  and how there  seems to be restaurants on every corner!   I'm still learning what it's like to live in a big city, but I'm actually getting used to it-  now if I can just figure out the subway system!&lt;br /&gt;So far what I've picked up on is that people here are generous.  Whether that is a Korean bellboy helping me with my bags, a hotel manager letting me use his phone, a lady on the bus giving me a signal that my stop is coming up, students cleaning my apartment, Ken taking me out to eat and then shopping, Ken's patience as I made decisions while shopping, my boss' wife making sure that I have proper dishes and furniture and snacks between classes, my boss' daughter showing me how to use my Korean phone, my Boss giving me some money to get me established, or my basketball buddy giving me a basketball so I wouldn't have to show up to the courts empty handed- I have definitely received much generousity over the past 3 days.&lt;br /&gt;God has definitely blessed me through the people around me. And this is something that I have had to learn to accept. The hopes I had coming here was to be a blessing to others- but to receive it is humbling.  I have been encouraged in seeing others practice this gift and also seeing that God is providing for me in the process. I have already met my next door neighbor, Ken, who also is working at the Academy. He has already shown me around my apartment and I look forward to him showing me around the city.
